If you ask anyone closest to me, they’ll confirm I’m a consummate over-thinker and perfectionist. To such a degree that any decision I have to make usually takes me a million years before I finally hit GO! The idea of rebranding, changing my socials and website name is one of those decisions, and it has been stressing me out for quite some time. I knew in my gut it had to be done, I no longer aligned with A Disney State of Mind and the ideas / “branding” I personally associated with that name. It has evolved, I have evolved, and it was time to change and rebrand.
Welcome to Write by the Magic!
Rebranding – Why now?
I don’t like change. Do any of us? Please say no… it will make me feel better! Yet, a LOT has changed in my life over the last year. More than I’ll get into right now. So I’ve been forced to adjust and make changes. And guess what? Despite what I stress about, everything is just fine and life goes on. Imagine that! But these changes in my life have allowed me ample time to soul search and really decide what I wanted to be when I grow up. And for me, that’s a writer. Full stop.
And that’s honestly where the real stress began. I wanted to create a space where I could combine my two biggest passions: writing and Disney. I already had several platforms to share information. I’ve had my website for nearly 5 years and I already have a social media presence. But I needed a brand name that would be recognized and easy to remember; something a little quirky with a play on words that would fit my two passions and even allow me to expand in the years to come. That was the ultimate rebranding goal.
The wheels turned day and night for what seems like FOREVER! Don’t believe me? Ask my poor sister who was the receiver of a million texts asking her opinion on different blog / brand name ideas. I drove her crazy. It literally halted everything I was doing, I was paralyzed. It was as if I couldn’t move forward with writing or actively participating on my social media accounts until I found the “perfect name” for my brand. Crazy, I know.
I spent days and nights thinking, jotting down words, thoughts, ideas. Then researching to see if the domain and socials were available or already taken. Getting crazy disappointed because in so many cases, the answer was yes. Ugh. Back to the drawing board. But I knew if I kept at it, I would find the right name for me. No matter how long it would painfully take.
Then it happened. After a full day of dedicated blog name searching, it hit me at 10:00pm – Write by the Magic.
It was absolutely perfect and incorporates so much of what I was hoping for….
- It has a quirky play on words (right –> write).
- Highlights my passion for writing and Disney (magic).
- Eventually I will literally be living right by the magic (I’ll be moving to Florida in the next year or two).
- The word “magic” allows me to also broaden my topics if I choose and doesn’t necessarily box me into just Disney content.
- Allows me to feel comfortable building a freelance writing business without having the name “Disney” in my brand name (which is never a good idea). I don’t need Disney lawyers knocking on my door.
I really couldn’t have nailed it any better than this! I’m super excited to switch my brand name over to the new name and get this fresh start!
So there ya have it, the secret to a creating the perfect blog / brand name is lack of sleep, over-thinking, stressing out, OCD, and fun. I’m really excited for this new chapter, hope you are too.
Bear with me as I update previous blog posts and social media platforms to align with the new brand. It may take me a few weeks to catch everything up!
