When Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened, I admit I was not the biggest Star Wars fan. As a matter of fact, at that point I had only seen the original Star Wars movie “A New Hope”, and nothing else.
Walking into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World changed all of that. I am obsessed. Obsessed with the movies, obsessed with the characters, obsessed with the land. A land so remarkable, it’s as if you are walking onto a movie set. Is this real?! Are we really in a galaxy far, far away? Why yes, yes we are!
Disney did an incredible job of blocking out the rest of the park (and world for that matter), so much that your mind, body and soul are literally transported to another place. A place where Rey, Chewbacca, Storm Troopers and Kylo Ren roam freely and interact with the Guests. A place that allows all of us to steer the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy, the Millennium Falcon. And a place that puts you in the middle of a galactic fight between good and evil on Rise of the Resistance. Whether you are a Star Wars fan or not (I can now say 1000% YES I am), if you don’t fall in the love with what Disney has created in Galaxy’s Edge, I’m not sure what to say. It is beyond spectacular and incredibly immersive on a super grand level.
So it goes without saying that visiting Batuu means also visiting Oga’s Cantina. It is not to be missed! How can one visit Galaxy’s Edge and not visit Oga’s? It’s a rite of passage. And I can tell you it’s one heck of an experience!
You do need reservations if you plan on heading to Oga’s, and since it’s so new, it can be difficult to grab one. I highly recommend booking reservations as soon as your 180-day window opens. If you can’t snag a reservation, keep checking back! People cancel all the time and reservations open up. I was lucky enough to grab a 9:45 am reservation the night before! I got lucky and snagged it without even thinking twice.
The Cantina serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, but you will not find your everyday menu items being offered. Please do not expect “normal” food, all of the food options are very eclectic. Remember, you are on Batuu, after all! (For the full menu choices, click here.)
I was well aware that walking into the Cantina at 9:45 am would require me choosing from the breakfast menu; which is a bit limited (if you ask me). I had a choice of Rising Moons Overnight Oats or a Mustafarian Cinnamon Roll. But to my surprise, not only was the breakfast menu available, the full drink and lunch menu was an option as well! So, as they say, when in Rome… the choice was not difficult!
The first of several cocktails ordered off the menu was a T-16 Skyhopper for me and a Dagobah Slug Slinger for my best friend! Let this party begin! Cheers!
- T-16 Skyhopper – Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Bols Melon Liqueur, Kiwi, Half & Half
- Dagobah Slug Slinger – Herradura Reposado Tequila, Bols Blue Curacao, Citrus Juices, Ginger, Herbs, Bitters
The place was buzzing at 10:00 am with fellow Guests drinking, eating and having a great time. DJ Rex was rocking his tunes, and the place was pumping! And it was working up my appetite. Perhaps it’s time for something to eat? One Happabore Sampler coming up!
Ok, so this sampler was interesting. I won’t say I didn’t like it, because that’s not entirely true. But would I order it again? Probably not. It was a platter of varied meats, cheese and vegetables, and I’m not even sure I can name them. Some were spicy, some mild, some pickled. Nothing seemed to go together. It was odd. And I personally didn’t think there was enough of any one thing on the platter that I liked to make it worth it. Next time, I’ll try something else. But that said, I’m glad I tried it. I do enjoy experimenting and trying new things, no matter what the end result is.
We had incredible Cast Members tending to us at the bar. They were an absolute blast, and quite honestly made the entire experience. You can tell they love their job. And they were never out of character! I mentioned “Walt Disney World” a few times and they had no idea what I was talking about! Remember, you’re on Batuu – “Walt Disney World” isn’t a thing! It was so much fun. And we had prime seats, right at the very end of the bar (well actually, there are no seats at the bar – standing room only). We were able to interact with tons of Cast Members as they gathered their drinks/meals for their Guests. They were very friendly and always will to chat and share information. It felt like we were getting some kind of inside scoop to how things worked behind the scenes, just by standing there. If you have the opportunity to ask, I would request a spot at the bar. The experience is extra magical.
Hmm, I’m getting a bit thirsty. I think it’s time for another drink. Let’s try something new! We couldn’t resist trying the Bloody Rancor with that crazy looking bone! I am not a Bloody Mary drinker, but this one was pretty good! The bone on the other hand I thought tasted like soap. Eww! It was supposed to be meringue, but I did not get that at all. Just my opinion, of course! But don’t worry, we finished them anyway. At $18.00 a cocktail, nothing goes to waste!
When you visit Oga’s, your reservation allows you 45 minutes in the Cantina. They don’t necessarily kick you out right at 45 minutes, but the Cast Members did tell us that they mind how long Guests are sticking around. We were respectful of the time and I believe were in the Cantina for about an hour, perhaps a few minutes over. Once we were finished at the bar, we took a walk around to see DJ Rex and the rest of the bar. The place is spectacular. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d be living a Star Wars dream… and loving it!
Sadly our time was up and it was time to go. So let’s grab a drink for the road! I absolutely loved the T-16 Skyhopper, it is definitely my new favorite! It’s like drinking a creamy melon smoothie. So I ordered another! Be careful though, it’s super easy to drink, goes down smooth & quick!
*Tip!*: Oga’s Cantina makes drinks to go! So if you want one for the road or can’t finish your cocktail in the time you have at the bar, take it with you. Just ask the Cast Member to put it in a to-go cup!
So all in all, my time at Oga’s was an absolute blast! Will I go back? YES! And I cannot wait! If you are lucky enough to snag yourself a reservation, I think the biggest tip I have for you is when you walk into Oga’s just let loose and have a good time. Enjoy the ambiance, the energy, interact with the cast members; all of that is what makes the experience so wonderful. You will create memories that last a lifetime!
Here are some general tips on Oga’s:
- Reservations are available 180 days out from your vacation; a credit card is required.
- Cancellations can be made up to the day before without penalty. No shows will be charged per the cancellation policy.
- Guests will be limited to 45 minutes in the Cantina.
- Guests must be 21 or older to consume alcohol.
- Oga’s is mainly standing, with limited seating; seating is not guaranteed and you may be seated with other parties.
- When Oga’s first opened in August 2019, there was a 2 drink limit per person. I am not 100% certain if that is still the case, we ended up each ordering 2 drinks while at the bar and one to go. I’m not sure if the “to go” drink counted. I’ll find out more the next time I visit if the 2 drink rule is still enforced!
