The Best of the Joyful Flower and Garden Festival 2023

Here’s your comprehensive guide to the most fabulous EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival! It is in full bloom starting March 1st and running through July 5th, 2023!

This festival is personally one of my very favorites. I know, I know. I say that for almost all of the festivals. But, what is there not to love about the Flower & Garden Festival! The crowds are a little bit lighter than you generally find during the Fall festival and you can’t beat the beautiful weather, topiaries, flowers, butterflies, food. It’s so vibrant and cheery, the vibe is bright and fun. You really can’t beat the atmosphere. So let’s get ready – the flowers are in full bloom and the culinary delights are ready to eat, as Walt Disney World awaits for Guests to arrive!

Beauty and the Beast, France Pavilion

If you have not been to the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, you owe it to yourself to take the trip and visit Walt Disney World during this time of year. This festival has been running since 1994 and continues to get bigger and brighter each and every year.

**Bookmark this page and follow along for everything you need to know about the festival. Refer back to it often as it will be updated accordingly as announcements and details are shared.

FESTIVAL OVERVIEW

The Flower and Garden Festival takes place in Epcot every year during the Spring and early Summer months. This is a much more relaxed atmosphere than the infamous Food & Wine Festival in the Fall. The Festival has grown in size over the years and the parks in general have become more crowded, so while it’s still quieter than its sister festival, expect crowds at certain times throughout the festival, especially on the weekends.

You will need a park ticket and park reservation to enter into Epcot, but once in, you will be able to enjoy all aspects of the festival. What will cost additional is any food and/or drink you may decide to try at the various food booths scattered throughout World Celebration, World Discovery, World Nature and the World Showcase. Special merchandise will also be available for the event as well, typically including special Annual Passholder items; those will come with an additional cost.

Every year Disney adds a few new features to the festival making it unique to this year. Here is what we can expect to see in 2023:

  • Encanto joins the topiary lineup! Mirabel, Antonio, Isabela, and Luisa from will appear near the EPCOT main entrance.
  • A new Princess Tiana topiary can be found at The American Adventure pavilion, along with returning favorites such as Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs; Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Captain Hook and Tick Tock Croc; Figment; Anna and Elsa; and more.
  • Garden Rocks will return with performers ranging from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00’s decades.
  • There will be more than 15 NEW outdoor kitchens offering unique food and drink items.
  • Our beloved Orange Bird will be the mascot of the festival once again and a big part of festival merchandise.
  • Spike’s Pollen-Nation Exploration scavenger hunt will also be returning.
World Showcase

UNIQUE FESTIVAL EVENTS

During the festival there are special activities unique to the festival that Guests can enjoy! Here is what we know so far is returning this year:

Spike’s Pollen Nation Exploration

This fun family scavenger hunt will be back this year and more fun than ever with new locations to explore and discover!! Similar to other scavenger hunts throughout the year, Guests can make their way around the World Showcase in search of Spike and the flowers he’s pollinated.

Here’s how it works! Pick up a garden map and stickers at Port of Entry (near the entrance to World Showcase). Throughout the World Showcase, you’ll search for the plant Spike has pollinated, identifiable by Spike himself, along with Spike’s Pollen Nation Exploration plant stake. Once you find him, add the corresponding sticker to your map. Spike’s Pollen Nation Exploration can be purchased for $7.99, plus tax. When you have filled your map, return to Port of Entry for your surprise. Guests can also purchase select merchandise offerings featuring everyone’s favorite little bee, Spike.

Egg-stravaganza Scavenger Hunt

The Eggstravaganza Scavenger Hunt returns this year as well! Beginning March 31st, Guests can search for Disney character-themed eggs around World Showcase. Purchase a scavenger hunt map and stickers for $9.99 at Disney Trader, Pin Trader and World Traveler. You’ll find a special character Easter egg in each pavilion. Once you locate the hidden eggs, match the stickers to the locations on your map. When your map is complete, take it to Port of Entry for a surprise!

The Butterfly House

The Butterfly House is also back this year! This is one my very favorite parts of the festival! Over 1000 butterflies will fly amongst the garden (and Guests!) and the nearly 2 dozen nectar plants.

This is one of my absolute favorite offerings during the Flower & Garden Festival. It’s not to be missed. Visiting multiple times throughout your visit. I guarantee you each time you will see and learn something completely new! It’s fascinating.

Butterfly House

TOPIARIES

Dragon Topiary, Japan Pavilion

One of the highlights of the festival are the amazing topiaries scattered all throughout the park. Each one meticulously crafted to represent one of our favorite characters from movies old and new. The topiaries become more and more realistic as the years go on. I’m always in awe of the Disney horticulture team and what they accomplish.

Every year, Disney adds new topiaries to highlight a new film or character. I will add those to the list below. Otherwise, this list is from the 2022 year, and will be updated accordingly once we know where the topiaries will show up this year. Most remain in the same location, however there are some that are shifted to make room for new ones.

  • Encanto Topiaries (NEW in 2023!) – Mirabel, Antonio, Isabela and Luisa – EPCOT Main Entrance
  • Woody, Bo Peep and Her Sheep from Toy Story – World Nature near The Land pavilion
  • Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Chip, Dale & Pluto – Bridge to World Showcase

GARDEN ROCKS CONCERT SERIES

The infamous Garden Rocks Concert Series is back and better than ever! Enjoy pop icons ranging from the 1960’s all the way through the 2000’s as they rock and jam on the American Gardens Theater (across from the American Adventure Pavilion). See here for this year’s full lineup. There are some fan favorites returning like Starship and Rick Springfield!

And if you are interested in priority seating for any one of the scheduled concerts, consider booking a dining package. Indulge in a meal (breakfast, lunch or dinner) at select restaurants throughout EPCOT and receive a priority seat (1 per person on the reservation) at one of the concerts that same evening. Note that you typically don’t get to select the time of the concert you attend (there are usually 3 performances in the evening; 5:30pm, 6:45pm, and 8:00pm est), but if you ask your server nicely, they may swap out the time if it conflicts with something else you have planned (like Genie+ or Individual Lightning Lane reservations).

The dining packages are offered Friday through Monday during the Flower and Garden Festival and are a great way to guarantee seating and you won’t have to wait an hour+ to see your favorite performer. There are very limited same-day dining packages at the Regal Eagle Smokehouse. If you decide last minute to visit EPCOT and want to join the same-day list, visit the restaurant for more information. They are subject to availability, so visit early to secure your spot.

OUTDOOR KITCHENS

This year, over 15 Outdoor Kitchens are abloom with the freshest flavors and ingredients that are sure to be bursting with flavor. With returning favorites like the Honey-Mascarpone Cheesecake from The Honey Bee-stro Hosted by National Honey Board or the Boneless IMPOSSIBLE Korean Short Rib at Trowel & Trellis Hosted by IMPOSSIBLE and nearly 50 – yes, 50 – new dishes about to blossom for the first time like the Muffuletta Panini from Magnolia Terrace and the Citrus Baked Brie from The Citrus Blossom, you’ll definitely want to try everything.

TIPS & STRATEGIES FOR ENJOYING THE FESTIVAL

These are my tried and true tips for the EPCOT festivals – they are interchangeable for most of the festivals actually. And they work pre-pandemic as well as after. Enjoy the festival!

TIP 1: Don’t forget to pick up your Guide Map and Passport.

These are essential to organizing your day. Know where you are going and use your Passport to check off where you’ve been and what you’ve tried. At the start of the day, highlight the offerings that are your “must do’s”, this way you can prioritize those and you don’t miss out!

TIP 2: Plan ahead!

Each year, Disney announces the food booths long before the festival starts. This provides the opportunity to get to know what is being offered, and what you might like to try. Similar to tip #1, make a list of must try items! Leave room for spontaneity and discovery, but having a list will allow you to not miss anything you want to try and stay on budget.

TIP 3: Have a budget and stick with it!

With all the food and drink offerings at the festival, setting a limit right from the beginning is the best way not to go overboard. My suggestion is to put a set amount of money on the mini special event wristband gift cards. This will help you stay on track, and they are great souvenirs too!

TIP 4: Find a place to sit and relax!

Scouting out a place to sit and enjoy your tasty treats may be difficult, especially on weekends. There are a lot of high top tables around the World Showcase, but there are also many nooks and crannies where you can grab a seat and enjoy your food and wine. My recommendation, scout out a table before you purchase treats. Have a friend hold the table while you get the food – another tip, ask to share a table! It’s a great way to meet new friends! I have met some of the most interesting people by doing this!

TIP 5: Don’t forget about World Celebration, Nature and Discovery!

Don’t forget or underestimate the offerings in World Celebration, Nature and Discovery (formerely Future World)! Many think that the festival just takes place in the World Showcase, and in years past, that was the case. But over the last several years, booths have erected across the rest of the park as well! Be sure to check them out!!

TIP 6: Pace yourself and share!!

With so many options available to us every year at the Flower and Garden Festival, it’s easy to get over excited and dig right in to the food offerings. By the time you hit the halfway point, you’ve had enough! Prioritize what to eat and drink first and go slowly. There is plenty of time to try everything! Use your Festival Guide to help you navigate and plan.

Also, I highly recommend sharing with friends and family! This is a great way to maintain your appetite, save some money, and you get to try more things!

TIP 7: Take advantage of the activities

The Flower and Garden Festival offers unique activities for the young and young at heart, all centered around Disney’s horticulture program. Take advantage of these. Some are free, some are of minimal cost. All well worth it!

TIP 8: HAVE FUN!!!
